The house feels different today. The boxes of Christmas decorations are tucked back into the attic, the lingering scent of evergreen and cinnamon has faded, and the vibrant, joyful chaos of December has been replaced by a new silence. For many, this transition feels like a void, but for the intentional heart, it is an invitation. There is a special kind of beauty in this mid-winter pause.
I am finding so much joy in settling into a new, quieter routine. It’s a rhythm measured by the slow rise of sourdough on the counter and the warmth of a second cup of coffee while the morning light is still blue and cold. This isn’t about being less productive; it’s about being more present. There is a unique kind of worship found in the quiet. When the noise of the world fades, the voice of the Father becomes so much clearer.
In the busyness of the “doing” season, it is easy to let our conversation with God become a series of quick check-ins. But in the stillness of a winter morning, we can finally practice the “being.” It is here, in the absence of the rush, that we remember our hope isn’t found in how much we accomplish, but in whose we are. God often does His deepest work in the shadows of the quiet, teaching us His paths and guiding us in His truth while the world waits for spring.
As you settle into your own new routines this month, I encourage you to embrace the blank pages and the quiet corners of your home. Don’t be in such a hurry to fill the silence. Let the peace of this season ground you, let the stillness nourish you, and listen closely. You might just find that the most important words for your year ahead are currently being whispered in the quiet.
A Quiet Morning Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of this still, quiet morning. As the world begins to stir, I choose to remain here in Your presence for a moment longer. Thank You for the peace that surpasses understanding and for the grace to rest while the earth is wintering.
Lord, guide my steps today. Help me to build a routine that honors You and protects the peace You have placed in my heart. Purify my thoughts and let my words be soft and kind. In the silence, speak to me; in the stillness, lead me. May my home be a sanctuary of Your love today.
Show me Your ways, Lord. Teach me Your paths. For my hope is in You all day long.
Amen.
